Terms of use
These terms cover Ember Abyss, a free browser game by Xaplore LLC, at ember-abyss.xaplore.dev and on our itch.io page. By playing you agree to them. Effective October 18, 2026.
The game
Ember Abyss is free to play, with no ads and nothing to buy. It is provided "as is" and "as available": we work to keep it running and your saves safe, but we can't promise it will always be available, bug-free, or that saves can never be lost. Keeping an exported copy of a character you care about is a good idea.
Accounts are optional
You can play as a guest without an account; your progress then stays in your browser. You may choose to sign in with Google to keep cloud saves. You are responsible for your Google account; anyone who can sign in to it can see and change your cloud saves. What we store, and how to delete it, is described in our privacy policy. You can delete your cloud data at any time from the account menu. Don't sign in if you are under 13.
Fair use
Please don't:
- overload, probe or abuse our servers or their API, or try to get around rate limits or security checks;
- use cheating tools or modified clients against the online rooms or the save server, or exploit bugs to harm other players;
- scrape the service with automated tools, or use it to store anything other than your own game saves;
- pick character names that are hateful, harassing or impersonate someone.
We may remove characters, end sessions, or close an account that breaks these rules.
Changes and shutting down
We may change or reset parts of the game, or remove cloud data in case of abuse. If we ever stop offering cloud saves, we will try to give reasonable notice in the game so you can keep a local copy; your local saves and exports keep working in your browser.
Content
The game's code, art, music and text belong to Xaplore LLC. Your characters are yours to play, export and delete.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, Xaplore LLC is not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for lost game progress, arising from the game or the save service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to US$10. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.
Changes to these terms
If these terms change, we will post the new version here with a new effective date. Continuing to play after that means you accept them.
